Portobello Market - Second Hand Section
At the tail end of Portobello Market lies the second hand section, which approximates to the stretch between Cambridge Gardens and Goldbourne Road.
There are a sprinkling of new goods stalls here as well, generally these are traders who are waiting in the queue to be allocated a pitch further down the market - they could well be in for a long wait, as traders in good positions only rarely let go of their stalls.
This area tends to service the locals who are walking back to their homes in the north kensington area, it would be fair to say that this is not the richest area of London and the stock on the stalls reflects this ... putting it another way, only a few stray tourists make it this far and the tendy set are not often seen north of Cambridge Gardens!!
However there are some bargains to be had, especially with the second hand clothes, if you are a fashionista, then you should make the effort to do this last stretch after the more enticing Westway/Portobello Green area ... it could be your lucky day.
There are several distinct sections of the market ...
- Antiques Section - from Chepstow Villas to Elgin Crescent
- Fruit and Veg - Elgin Crescent to Talbot Road
- New Goods - Talbot Road to the Westway
- Fashion Market - Street in General and Westway Area
- Second Hand Goods - Westway to Goldbourne Road
